Advance U Staff
As School Leader of Advance U, a neighborhood charter school located in South Phoenix serving children in pre-Kindergarten to third grade, I have been extremely privileged to be able to provide a second choice of education for students in this part of the valley. I have found it very important to make sure this was a place for the community no matter what ethnic or economic background our students or families have.
Advance U's mission is to develop each child's unique learning potential through a partnership between the school and home. We are proud to have small-size classes, which help our teachers-the majority bilingual, establish a more personal and supportive relationship with our students and parents. We currently have 53 students enrolled in kindergarten through 3rd grade and 30 students enrolled in our pre-kindergarten program.
According to a Parents Across America Study, states throughout the country have shown that students who are assigned to smaller classes in grades K-3rd do better in every way that can be measured: score higher on tests, receive better grades, and exhibit improved attendance.
With small-size classes come other opportunities like the integration of technology in the classroom. Advance U provides access to computers and iPads to our students, which we firmly believe help them develop important skills in today's ever-changing world. At Advance U, we also stress the importance for parents and grandparents to know that they have a choice in where to send their children and grandchildren to school, whether they live or not in an area close to the school.
Mrs. Wendy Yacoub is honored and excited to be a member of the Advance U family as an Instructional Coach. This will be her 17th year in education. Mrs. Yacoub earned her Bachelors of Arts in History and Education from the City University of New York, Herbert Lehman and a Master's degree in Secondary Education from Shenandoah University and her Leadership Certification from Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia.
Prior to coming to Advance U, she taught at Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia for 16 years. Mrs. Yacoub comes from New York, and is a NY Giants fan!!! Before her career as a teacher, Mrs. Yacoub worked for the Department of Defense for 11 years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia working with Foriegn Military Services selling and training F-15 fighters to the Royal Saudi Air Force.
I am an Educational Studies student at Arizona State University. I am passionate about learning and even more passionate about those I help learn. I love everything about education and the magnificent ways we learn. I am dedicated and committed to help deliver quality education to all of our students. I believe education is the key to success as well as a source of growth for all. My job and role as part of the administrative team at Advance U are important and valuable to me. I consider it a great privilege to serve, educate, and learn alongside our students and peers.
